In exciting news, the 2022 Mid Canterbury Rugby team have three new coaches and team manager for the upcoming Heartland season. John Sherratt is the head coach for the side and his assistants are Pete Manson and Grant Polson along with Jason Tennant as team manager. The new coaching group have signed on for the next two years which is an exciting prospect for everyone involved. All three coaches have extensive and impressive coaching resumes. They come from a variety of different roles which will bring a fresh perspective to the team.
John Sherratt has coached across all levels, from schoolboy to provincial women's rugby to professional rugby in Japan. Sherratt is currently head coach with Christchurch Rugby Club and previous to that been the assistant coach for Dunedin Rugby Football Club in 2021 and the assistant coach for the Otago Women's side as well. Sherratt has plenty of success winning a lot of competitions throughout his 27 years of coaching rugby and has picked up a lot of awards along the way. He has also held different roles such as selector, opponent analyst, technical adviser and the like, which shows he has a variety of skills to bring to the table.
Pete Manson isn't a stranger to Mid Canterbury Rugby fans as he has been the Mid Canterbury 'A' head coach for the past three seasons. Manson also as experience as an assistant coach for the Canterbury Metro Seniors and the Canterbury Metro Under 20 side between 2007 to 2015. Likewise, Grant Polson is very familar to Mid Canterbury Rugby fans as he was the assistant coach/technical adviser of the Mid Canterbury team back in 2015 where they finished second on the regular season table.
With some new faces coming and some old faces returning, it's an exciting time for Mid Canterbury Rugby and it's fans. Here's hoping we can see the Heartland team return to the top half of the ladder with the new coaching group at the helm.
