Wet weather the ultimate leveller for this weekends rugby

Wet weather this weekend made for some cracking encounters at all levels of rugby. In Watters Cup rugby, Southern and Rakaia locked horns at the Hinds Domain. The game was a convincing effort for the Southern side as they had a big win. In the other game, Celtic and Methven played at Celtic. This game was incredibly close as neither team could be separated at the end of 80 minutes. In the Centennial Mug Senior B rugby, all three of the games were very close on the scoreboard and the wet weather was a leveller.

As the Watters Cup action is getting to the important start of the season. Southern and Rakaia played out of Hinds. Southern were far too good on the day as they won 24-7. Southern midfielder, Thomas Middleton was in fine form as he scored fourteen out of the twenty-four points for Southern. Celtic and Methven played at Celtic in what was the closest game of the weekend. Neither team could be separated as it was a 13-13. Celtics winger, Raitube Vasurakuta was in try scoring form for Celtic as he scored Celtics only try. Methven’s hooker, Ben Bartlett and prop, Matthew Groom, were Methven’s try scorers in the draw.

The Centennial Mug round is heating up as the teams are trying to jostle for position on the leader board. Celtic went up against Allenton at Celtic. The game was a battle as Celtic pulled away with a 24-16 victory. Celtics midfielder, Albert Hobson was in try scoring form as he dotted down for a hat trick in the win.

Mt Somers and Collegiate played in a tough game at Mt Somers. Mt Somers was too good on the day as they won 17-7. Mt Somers midfielder, John Bukholt was involved in everything as he scored a try and kicked a conversion for Mt Somers.

Hampstead and Methven played against each other at Hampstead. This was the closest game of the Centennial Mug round as Hampstead won 21-17. Hampstead’s fullback, Junior Esae was in fine form scoring eleven points off the boot in Hampstead’s victory.

In the teenage rugby, it was an incredibly positive weekend for the Mid Canterbury sides as four of the five sides were able to come away with a victory. The Celtic Colts played against the Ashley Colts in the third and fourth playoff game. It was a tough day at the office for the Celtic side as they lost 24-10.

In the Under 18 semi-finals the Alps went up against the Waihora/Lincoln Under 18 side. The Alps side were on fire with a big 22-0 victory.

In the Under 16’s, the Celtic ide played against West Melton. Celtic kept their unbeaten streak going with a blowout 46-7 victory. The Methven Under 16’s played against Waihora Under 16’s. Methven were able to come away with a 37-12 victory as they are hot on the heels of the Celtic side. The Plains Under 16 side played against the Rolleston Lions. The Plains were far too good as they won 22-5 to cap off a good weekend for our teenage sides.
