The Hammers keep their top four hopes alive

The Mid Canterbury Hammers travelled up to Levin over the weekend to take on Horowhenua Kapiti in a must win game. The Hammers needed to win this game to keep their top four aspirations alive. In challenging conditions it was always going to be a close run affair with the sides very close to each other on the table.

The wet weather made for a very challenging game for both sides. Mid Canterbury shot to an early 15-0 lead in the first half. Horowhenua Kapiti had a massive fight back to pull it back to a two pointy margain in the dying minutes of the game. Mid Canterbury were able to hang on and finish up with a 15-13 victory and keep their top four hopes alive.

Mid Canterbury's point scorers were Jonetani Vasurakuta and halfback, Tyler Blackburn. First five Nathan McCloy kicked a conversion and also a penalty.

This coming weekend Mid Canterbury play host to South Canterbury, in what is shaping up to be a very important game. This game is Mid Canterbury's Sky Sports game and also their game for their chosen charity - The Meningitis Foundation of NZ.
