Mid Canterbury finding form at the right time


The Mid Canterbury Under 16's travelled down to Waimate to take on South Canterbury in a curtain raiser for the South Canterbury Heartland side. This was an important game for both sides, as a win secures their spot in the top eight of the Under 16 South Island tournament in a couple of weeks time. Earlier on in the season South Canterbury were able to get the better of the Mid Canterbury side, so it was a good opportunity for Mid Canterbury to bounce back. 

Mid Canterbury got off to the best possible start as they scored two early tries to put South Canterbury on the back foot. South Canterbury fought back to make the game all tied up at the halftime break. In the second half it was one way traffic for Mid Canterbury as they put on a dominant display to win 36-19. 

Mid Canterbury's try scorers were hooker Logan Williams, Lock Harry Spicer, winger Tom McKenzie, Fullback Fletcher Hobbs, reserve forward Zane Harmer and reserve winger John McConaghy. First five Sonny McMillan kicked three conversions as well. 

The Under 16 South Island tournament begins next Tuesday at the Ashburton Showgrounds, so get down at support the Mid Canterbury team as they play in the top eight section of the tournament.
